With the world shifting towards more sustainable practices to reduce climate change and protect the environment, Liffey Crane Hire decided last year that we would focus our efforts on turning our crane company green.
We have been introducing practices throughout our business to minimise our impact on the environment, from using innovative technologies and cleaner fuel to implementing environmentally-friendly practices in our work environment.
Introducing Sustainability Practices in the Workplace
We decided to start small and get some advice from our neighbours (one of the countries leading recyclers) and start recycling. Then other initiatives came to the fore, such as making sure we turned off lights and filled the kettle with just enough water to meet requirements.
Switching to Renewable Biofuel
We are proud to announce that from the beginning of this year, we have changed our fuel source from traditional diesel to renewable HVO Biofuel.
What is Biofuel and HVO Fuel?
Biofuel is a renewable source of energy that comes from plants, animals, or algae, making it an eco-friendly alternative to traditional diesel.
HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a biofuel made from 100% certified waste vegetable oils and animal fats. HVO fuels have become a viable choice to help reduce diesel vehicle and plant emissions, offering exceptional performance and reliability while reducing carbon emissions by up to 90%.

Our spider cranes have the ability to operate from a direct electrical supply, which means they can be used without carbon-emitting fuel.
We also decided to invest in the ECO UNIC URW-295-3 Variable Outrigger Mini Spider Crane, powered by a 3.1kw AC motor and 48v DC rechargeable battery. This is versatile spider crane with zero emissions retains all the benefits of the standard 295 model, with the addition of variable, adjustable outriggers, enabling this mini crane to operate around fixed obstacles on site to suit the unique lifting requirements of each project.
